The sun was different back then,
An orange ball smiling down from above,
As we laid on the grass in my backyard,
Laughing at the silly pictures we took of ourselves.

The lake was different back then,
As you sat on my lap with a lusty look,
Listening to old songs on the radio,
Making love in the cramped back seat.

The theatre was different back then,
As you held my hand covered in the grease of popcorn,
Sitting at the very back where no one could see,
Paying less attention to the movie than we did to ourselves.

Restaurants were different back then,
Filled up with noisy chattering customers,
You sat across from me leaning forward with a grin,
Tucked safely inside of the bubble we’ve created.

The city was different back then,
As we walked the rainy streets at night,
Peering into the illuminated windows of closed stores,
Friendly strangers approaching us with curiosity.

The world was different back then,
As we laid on the sand, contemplating the waves of the ocean,
The beating of our hearts, the sweating of our skin,
Never once giving thought, that someday all this would end.

Everything was different back then.
