I agree with you for the most part. I just wonder how such ideology can be implemented when laws exist to prosecute even the most benign of statements.
Meghan Murphy is a feminist journalist who was banned from Twitter for saying that if you are born a man then you are a biological male no matter how you identify as.

And now she’s gone. Deplatformed for what Twitter claims to be targeted hate speech and sexism.
To allow freedom of discourse and the necessity of having an open mind, it’s difficult to realize these virtues within unreasonably constrained parameters. Imagine if a law passed that banned the use of the letter G. It would be difficult to monitor one’s behaviour and speak in an “approved way” without ruffling feathers at some point.
Again, all commendable wisdom on your part but such thoughts are difficult to realize when it appears that the system of expression we operate on is controlling and compelling what ideas are allowed to be discussed. Meghan Murphy did not actively spread hate and stated facts — yet this did not sit well with the sensitivities of those who felt such an individual needed to be removed from the public sphere.
Discourse in the social media arena degrades and punishes the virtues you and I believe in. You state that differences in opinion aren’t the issue and that arguing productively is — but I see so much evidence to dispute this notion with. I don’t fully understand what productively arguing means or involves doing.
I think we need to dig deeper into what we want to achieve as a civilization and to examine the barriers that limit progress.
It’s my contention that those who control the flow of information are the ones we must speak out against should we desire to reform the ways in which we disagree with one another.
Hope I helped in explaining my point a little better. The type of thinking we both wish to encourage needs a safe and tolerant environment to exist within. It’s important that we focus on advocating towards that.
